If HostGator allows you to use FTP or if they provide a Control Panel, it would enable you to upload and download any folder. Did they install wordpress for you? To use any of these themes you have to be using wordpress script from wordpress.org not wordpress.com these are not the same. They are the same but editing is limited with wordpress.com.
For example, if hosted with us at efficientsites.com; we install wordpress or most any other script, php, html with templates as part of the package for free plus you are provided with your own control panel which allows you full access to all your files for uploading, editing and downloading. I took a quick look at Hostgator and it don't appear to me that you are allowed to use any of the wordpress scripts you may find on this or any other wordpress template site. It looks like they do provide a control panel, although, all control panels do not provide the same functions.
If Hostgator don't work out for you, check out our services at efficientsites.net or .com. We also provide domain transfers and I would be happy to guide you through the transition.
So, for now, check into your provider's control panel for folder upload/download ability.
One last question: Did they provide you with a Wordpress Admin Control Panel. That's a must for making changes and maintaining a wordpress blog.
I'll assist you anyway I can regardless of who you are hosting with. Check these things out and feel free to ask me for any help you need along the way.

Ah, Thanks for your reply,

I get the idea that to have the "Theme" folder I would have had to have the downloaded version of wordpress. I am using a host (HostGator) for my blog which means that I am working through a third party. I am able to edit the html, which I have been doing to alter the email addresses, so is it still possible or do you think it would be easier for me to choose a different theme.

You have to do a little photo editing. There is a jpg provided in the 'Theme' folder under images for editing called edit_head. Just overlay your photo and save it as head.jpg, then upload back to your server under images in the theme folder.

Hi,

I have downloaded and activated this theme. I am a new blogger apart from a 4 month spell using blogger. I love the layout and design of Revolt Basic, but I have no idea how to add my image to the face section. Could you possibly explain how this is done please?
